Temple Beth David Celebrates Rosh Chodesh with Skype
The Sisterhood of Temple Beth David joined with women from a temple in Jerusalem to celebrate the holiday in a 2.0 Web-friendly style.
On Sunday, at noon, women from the Sisterhood of connected with women from Kehillat Mevakshei Derech in Jerusalem – via Skype.
The women celebrated the monthly holiday of Rosh Chodesh. The program was part of a "twinning" effort initiated by Women of Reform Judaism, which has paired 15 congregations in Israel with Sisterhood groups in North America.
The holiday, according to the women of Temple Beth David, marks the start of a new month. It is celebrated with prayer, song, Torah readings and discussion. It means "head of the month" in Hebrew. It has become a holiday for women to identify with and celebrate their lives as Jewish women. Glenda Kresh, member of the Sisterhood group, was intrigued by this method of sharing the holiday with a new group of women.

"The only thing we could not share with our sisters in Jerusalem were refreshments, but everything else was live," said Glenda Kresh.
WRJ is an international organization that works with 65,000 women in more than 500 women's groups. The program helped women gather together to celebrate the holiday, a traditional custom for those of Jewish faith.
