5-Week Overnight Shutdown Slated For Part Of Southern State: DOT
The overnight road closures are part of an $8-million project funded by New York State to repave part of the Southern State Parkway.

DEER PARK, NY — Drivers should be prepared for nightly road closures on the Southern State Parkway from Exit 32 to Exit 39, Department of Transportation officials told Patch Thursday.
Starting Thursday, September 19, the eastbound Southern State Parkway will be closed overnight between Exit 32 (NYS Route 110) and Exit 39 (NYS Route 231) in the Town of Babylon as part of an $8-million resurfacing project, officials said.
The road will be closed on weeknights between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. for approximately five weeks.

Drivers can expect to be detoured southbound onto State Route 110, aka Broadway, for around 1½ miles to State Route 27, aka Sunrise Highway, going eastbound for around six miles to Exit 40 for State Route 231, aka Deer Park Avenue and the Babylon-Northport Expressway, northbound to return to the Southern State Parkway, the DOT said.
The construction is part of $100 million in funding announced in November 2023 to support the renewal of state roadways affected by extreme weather. The funds support repaving projects at 66 locations, totaling almost 568 lane miles of pavement, and the Southern State Parkway project is the only one on Long Island.
