69 MPH Wind Gusts Recorded On Long Island; 10K Lose Power

PSEG Long Island says it has restored power to almost all of its customers that lost power overnight. See wind gust reports and rain totals.

LONG ISLAND, NY — More than 10,000 PSEG Long Island customers lost power overnight as wind gusts nearing 70 mph lashed the region. As of 2:30 p.m., PSEG said it had restored power to all but about 200 of its customers.

All weather watches and warnings for the island have now expired. Only minor coastal flooding has been reported.

The highest wind gust overnight on the island was 69 mph, recorded at the Fire Island Coast Guard Station at 3:46 a.m. and also in Orient at 5:15 a.m. Find town-by-town wind gust reports to the National Weather Service here.

Most of the island picked up 1-2 inches of rain, with the highest total of 1.87 inches reported in Terryville. See all rain total reports here.

Looking ahead, a few snow showers may pop up during the week on the island. It's the weekend, though, when we will see our next chance of a winter storm.

"There is a lot of uncertainty with the upcoming weekend forecast and whether a storm will develop along the coast and how close it may get into next weekend," the weather service said.

At the moment, the forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of snow showers on Saturday and Sunday.

The full forecast:

Monday- Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 40. Breezy, with a southwest wind around 21 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph.

Monday Night- A 20 percent chance of snow showers between 1am and 2am. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 26. Wind chill values between 15 and 25. Breezy, with a west wind 16 to 21 mph.

Tuesday- Sunny, with a high near 36. Wind chill values between 10 and 20. Breezy, with a west wind 20 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph.

Tuesday Night- Increasing clouds, with a low around 22. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light and variable after midnight.

Wednesday- Mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. Light south wind becoming southwest 13 to 18 mph in the morning.

Wednesday Night- A 50 percent chance of showers after 8pm. Cloudy, with a low around 31.

Thursday- A chance of rain showers, mixing with snow after 8am, then gradually ending. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Thursday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14.

Friday- Partly sunny, with a high near 25.

Friday Night- A 30 percent chance of snow showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16.

Saturday- A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 29.

Saturday Night- A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20.

Sunday- A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 33.
