High Wind Advisory In Effect Across Long Island Thursday Night Into Friday: NWS

Wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour are expected to pummel Long Island, the NWS says.

LONG ISLAND, NY β€” A wind advisory is in effect across Long Island from midnight Thursday until midnight Friday, the National Weather Service said.

Beginning late Thursday night into Friday morning, south winds at 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected, the NWS said.

There may be a brief period Friday morning where heavy showers and thunderstorms bring isolated, damaging wind gusts, the NWS said.

For Friday evening and night, northwest winds at 20 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph, are forecast, the NWS said.

"Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result," the NWS said. "Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. Secure outdoor objects," the NWS said.
