Free breast cancer screenings will be offered in North Babylon on Friday, hosted by Sen. Monica R. Martinez and Stony Brook Medicine.
NORTH BABYLON, NY — Free breast cancer screenings are coming to North Babylon on Friday.
One out of every eight women in the United States will develop breast cancer in her lifetime and early detection significantly increases the chances of successful treatment and survival, according to the American Cancer Society.
Stony Brook Medicine's Mobile Mammography Van will be at the North Babylon Fire Department on Friday, Aug. 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Screenings are free, but appointments are required. Anyone interested in getting a mammogram must be 40 or older to be eligible, although some high-risk individuals under 40 may also qualify.

"A breast cancer diagnosis is frightening, but very survivable if caught early," said New York State Sen. Monica R. Martinez, who helped organize the event. "Partnering with Stony Brook Medicine to bring the Mobile Mammography Van into our community will improve health outcomes and save lives. If you are over 40 or have a higher risk of developing breast cancer, I urge you to make an appointment."
This is the second time this summer the Mobile Mammography Van will visit the Fourth Senate District, following a screening event at the Brentwood Fire Department that Martinez hosted in July.
