SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — A Dix Hills man was indicted in connection with a high-speed, wrong-way pile-up crash that injured multiple people, including an elderly couple, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said Wednesday.
Miandad Khan, 37, of Dix Hills, was indicted on charges of aggravated vehicular assault, driving while impaired by a drug and other related charges after he drove while under the influence of drugs causing a multi-vehicle crash, the DA said.

According to court documents and the investigation, around 3:20 p.m. May 17, Miandad Khan was operating his silver 2016 Mercedes Benz E350 northbound on Deer Park Avenue in Deer Park when he struck a white 2020 Acura near the intersection of Deer Park Avenue and Jacqueline Way, prosecutors said. As he neared the intersection of Deer Park Avenue and Grand Boulevard, he struck a Honda SUV occupied by two teenage brothers, causing their vehicle to spin out, investigators said. Khan’s vehicle continued northbound through the intersection when he crashed head on into a Toyota Rav 4 occupied by a 70-year-old couple, causing both vehicles to slam into other cars, prosecutors said.
The couple had to be extracted from their vehicle before being brought to Good Samaritan Hospital to undergo surgery for facial and spinal fractures, officials said. Additional vehicles were damaged by debris, the DA said.
The brothers in the Honda SUV, as well as the driver of the 2020 Acura, were all transported to
Good Samaritan Hospital where they received medical treatment, authorities said.
On Wednesday, Khan was arraigned on charges of one count of aggravated vehicular assault; two counts of second-degree assault; one count of first-degree vehicular assault; two counts of second-degree vehicular assault; one count of driving while ability impaired by drugs; one count of third-degree assault; one count of second-degree reckless endangerment; one count of reckless driving; one count of leaving the scene of an incident without reporting; one count of speeding; and one count of failure to maintain lane, Tierney said.
Khan was ordered to be held on $100,000 cash, $200,000 bond or $1,000,000 partially-secured bond while his case pends. Khan is due back in court on Oct. 1 and faces eight-and-one-third to 25 years in prison if convicted on the top count. He is being represented by John Caffrey.
