New York To Spend $8 Million Repaving Part Of Southern State Parkway
The funding announced this week supports the renewal of state roadways affected by extreme weather.

DEER PARK, NY — The state of New York has committed $8 million toward resurfacing the Southern State Parkway from Exit 32 to Exit 39.
It's part of $100 million in funding announced this week to support the renewal of state roadways affected by extreme weather. The funding supports repaving projects at 66 locations, totaling almost 568 lane miles of pavement, and the Southern State Parkway project is the only one on Long Island.
"From a devastating blizzard to historic flooding, we are living in a time of record-breaking weather events which have left many roads across New York State in need of repair and rejuvenation," Gov. Kathy Hochul said in the announcement.

Some areas of Long Island received more than 6 inches of rain during the storm Sept. 29, and the Southern State was one of the region's highways closed in places due to flooding. A state of emergency was declared.
The work on the parkway funded under this initiative will cover the section between Route 110, aka Broadhollow Road and Broadway, and Route 231, aka Deer Park Avenue and the Babylon-Northport Expressway.

New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez said the funding would not only enhance road conditions and public safety, but also promote long-term sustainability and durability.
