North Babylon Resident Receives Congressional Award

NORTH BABYLON, NY — A North Babylon resident was recently celebrated by the United States Congress for his outstanding level of community service.

Ethan Klenofsky, 24, was recognized by The Babylon Town Board on Monday, for earning the prestigious Congressional Award.

Acording to a press release, the award is given by the United States Congress for young Americans. It is non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive. The program is open to all youth in the United States between the ages of 14 and 24 regardless of ability, circumstance or socioeconomic status, the release said.

Participants earn bronze, silver, and gold certificates and bronze, silver, and gold medals. Each level involves setting goals in four program areas: voluntary public service; personal development; physical fitness; and expedition/exploration.

Klenofsky spent much of his time volunteering at the Gerald Ryan Outreach Center in Wyandanch, and Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip before his 24th birthday, and "worked hard" to achieve his goal.

"Ethan worked hard to achieve his goal of receiving the Congressional Award before his 24th birthday," a press release said.

Councilman DuWayne Gregory was his mentor and guided him through the steps of the requirements.

“I have known Ethan since my time at the Suffolk County Legislature,” said Gregory. “It has been my honor to work with him and watch him grow into an outstanding member of our community. I’m so glad we were to celebrate his 24th birthday by welcoming him to Town Hall and recognizing this major accomplishment.”
