Last year, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison held a press conference, announcing a reward of up to $5,000 will be given for information to help lead to an arrest.
Philistin held a bachelor's degree in sports medicine from Alfred State University, Harrison said. He also played football and was a youth coach, giving back to his community.
His mother, Marie Rosental, pleaded for help at the press conference.
"Daniel was everything to me. He was my only son," she said, holding a picture of Philistin at his college graduation. "He was a good person. He didn't deserve to die like that. Please help me. "
