Robert Moses Student Recycle 200 Pairs Of Nike Sneakers

NORTH BABYLON, NY — Environmental-Recycling Club members from Robert Moses Middle School in the North Babylon School District recently spearheaded a project to recycle used Nike sneakers.

The club promoted the project throughout the school, collecting sneakers from classes and then counting and boxing them up to be donated to Nike.

The footwear company grinds the sneakers down and turns them into different surfaces such as tracks, playgrounds, tennis courts, and more.

The project at Robert Moses Middle School collected nearly 200 sneakers that would have otherwise gone into landfills. Since 1990, Nike’s program has collected more than 28 million shoes for recycling. In addition, the company has Reuse-a-Shoe bins in many of its U.S. retail stores.
