'Role Model' For Others: Deer Park-North Babylon Star Student Athlete

DEER PARK, NY — We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

How do you know the star student athlete?

My son.

What sport does the star student athlete play?

Baseball

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

My son has been playing baseball since he was four years old. He was very shy and quiet. All his coaches and friends have made him shine through baseball.

He is now a senior and this will be his last year playing. He is a sweet kid who loves to make people laugh. He was always the kid willing to play on another team if they were short players, just so the game would go on.

He never minded sitting on the bench or getting as much playing time as his friends, he was just happy to be there. He is a role model for other young players who have to work a little harder.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?

He is always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, no matter how old or if they have disabilities.
