'Tomorrow Will Be Cleanup Day': Babylon Town Supervisor

The timing of Tuesday's storm made it possible for the public works crews to get the roads thoroughly plowed, Rich Schaffer told Patch.

BABYLON, NY — Timing was everything as far as Tuesday's snowfall was concerned in Babylon.

"Everyone took it in stride," Supervisor Rich Schaffer told Patch. "The way that it played out in terms of timing, people were able to stay off the road. That gave the plow operators time and space to get the job done."

Local schools were closed, as were the town's senior centers: North Amityville Senior Center, Spangle Drive Senior Center, Tanner Park Senior Center and Wyandanch Senior Nutrition Center.

The work's not done, though, he said. Wednesday morning, crews will be out sanding the streets. Much will depend on the school districts' schedules.

"Also, a lot of people, when they clear their driveways, they push the snow into the street. We go back and clean up everybody's mess," Schaffer said. "Tomorrow will be clean-up day."

The snow won't stay long, he said — temperatures are expected to go up at the end of the week
