Town Of Babylon To Remember Hurricane Sandy, 10 Years Later

The town will hold a candlelight vigil this Saturday, on its 10th anniversary.

COPIAGUE, NY — In 2012, Long Island faced one of its most destructive natural disasters.

Ten years later, the Babylon Town Board will hold a candlelight vigil at Tanner Park in Copiague, at 5 p.m., to mark the anniversary of Hurricane Sandy.

The event will pay tribute to the first responders and residents who helped their community weather the storm.

On October 29, 2012, Hurricane Sandy made landfall along the New Jersey coast during a full moon and high tide cycle. These combining forces led storm surge as high as 8 feet in many communities along the South Shore.

Through all the devastation, our first responders and many average everyday citizens became community heroes when they stepped up to support those in need.
