West Babylon Man Pleads Guilty To Sexually Abusing Daughter, Son: DA

The man began abusing his daughter, now aged 10, when she was still wearing diapers, the DA says.

WEST BABYLON, NY — A West Babylon man pleaded guilty in court on Thursday to sexually abusing his son and daughter for at least ten years, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said.

The 36-year-old man, whose name was withheld to protect the privacy of the children, was charged with two counts of first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, prosecutors said.

According to court documents and his guilty plea, the man began sexually abusing his daughter, now aged 10, during visitation periods when she was still wearing diapers.

In November 2020, the man moved to a home in West Babylon, where the abuse continued. The last incident occurred when the man subjected his daughter to sexual acts during a camping trip at the Peconic River campground in May 2022, prosecutors said.

She was so young when the abuse began that she did not understand what her was doing to her or that it was wrong, prosecutors said.

However, following the last incident, the daughter spoke to a friend at school about what was being done to her by her father. The friend immediately recognized it was wrong and
encouraged her to tell her mother or the police.

The girl then told her mother, who then contacted the police, and the man was arrested following an investigation, prosecutors said.

Shortly after the man's arrest, his 12-year-old son, the daughter's half-sibling, disclosed that he too had been sexually abused by the defendant for the past year during visitation.

That boy told his mother that his father had abused him after he learned of the abuse suffered by his sister, prosecutors said.

His mother then contacted the police, and the defendant was arrested a second time, prosecutors said.

“This defendant’s heinous actions robbed his children of the feelings of love, safety and security
that a father should provide,” said Tierney. “Their courage and resilience in the face of such horrific abuse is nothing short of inspiring, and I hope that this plea provides them with some measure of peace in knowing that the defendant will no longer be able to harm them.”

The man is due back in court for sentencing on Oct. 6.
