Wyandanch Library Treasurer Resigns: Report
It's the third resignation this year and the latest in a series of problems for the library board.

WYANDANCH, NY — Adding to the Wyandanch Public Library's woes, its treasurer, who was hired in February, has resigned, Newsday reported.
Donna Gellineau-Matone told the paper that library officials have spent excessively for consulting, legal and accounting services, and questioned how assets are tracked and financial decisions are made. She is the third library officer to resign this year; the board president and facility director resigned in July, according to Newsday.

A $30 million lawsuit was filed against the library in September, after custodian Kwaisi McCorvey pleaded guilty to charges of raping a 16-year-old at work. He is currently on one year of interim probation. If he does not violate it, the charge of endangering the welfare of a child will stand and the charge of rape will be dismissed, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office. An attorney for the teenager filed the suit after the guilty plea.
Also, the library is in danger of losing its public funding, Newsday reported in October. The New York State Department of Education and the Suffolk County Library System said they couldn't tell if the library was meeting required standards.

A look at the library's website shows minutes of board meetings have not been posted since 2021.
Library officials will hold a special board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 7, according to a notice on the website. The meeting will be an executive session to discuss personnel and legal matters. The board's next regular meeting Dec. 18 will also start with an executive session and the public portion of the meeting is scheduled to start around 7 p.m.
