Wyandanch Street Renamed For Longtime Resident Who Cared For Community
Velina Ann Marshall, who provided meals to over 120,000 individuals, was recently remembered by town officials.

WYANDANCH, NY — A Wyandanch resident is being remembered for her outstanding community service.
The section of Straight Path and Little East Neck Road on Lincoln Avenue in Wyandanch was renamed "“Velina Ann Marshall Way," this week after Velina Ann Marshall, who passed away in February 2022.

Marshall was born in Panama, and moved to the United States in the 1960’s, a press release said. Not long after coming to the United States, she and her family settled in Wyandanch.
Early on in her career, she worked at Lakeside Hospital in Copiague and then went onto several other organizations including Estee Lauder where she spent 20 years.

Marshall became heavily involved in her local church community, a press release said. She lead a small staff of women, laborers, utilizing partnerships, donations, and her own money to feed the less fortunate during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons for more than 30 years.
Through her volunteering, she has provided meals to over 120,000 individuals and including families. Her community service took place predominately in Wyandanch, but also elsewhere in Suffolk County as well as in Nassau County and New York City, a press release said.
