3 Men Arrested in Connection to Midwood Verizon Store Robbery

Two armed men robbed cell phones from a Verizon Wireless store Thursday, resulting in a police standoff that left one man shot.

Three men were arrested and charged for involvement with the armed robbery of a Midwood, Brooklyn Verizon Wireless store Thursday.

According to police, Alan Francois, 25, of Brooklyn, was charged with robbery; Altariq Mciver, 39, of Queens, was charged with robbery and criminal possession of a firearm; and Marquis Riley, 25, of Brooklyn was charged with robbery and criminal trespass, after two men entered a Verizon store, located at 418 Ave. P, armed with a gun, and announced a robbery Thursday, Patch previously reported.

The men ordered all store employees to a back room and stole an undetermined number of cell phones, then fled in a black Jeep, according to a police news release. A store employee followed the Jeep while contacting 911 and alerted officers in an NYPD patrol vehicle near Coney Island Avenue and East 15th Street of the incident.

The officers broadcasted a description of the vehicle and suspects, and police in another vehicle observed the Jeep in the vicinity of East 14th Street and Avenue O, the release states. The Jeep driver turned southbound on East 14th Street from Avenue O, struck a parked vehicle and the passengers got out of their car, with one displaying a firearm.

A responding officer shot the armed suspect twice in the torso, the release states. The suspect was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition. One other suspect was apprehended without further incident, and another suspect had not been identified at the time, but was later found and arrested.

Two firearms were recovered from the scene and the officers involved were transported to Kings County Hospital for evaluation.
