An NYPD investigation has determined that the 35-year-old man driving the SUV was traveling southbound on East 22nd when he “struck the victim as she attempted to cross East 22nd Street from the east side to the west.”

In other words, Williams was trying to walk back to her home on the west side of the street.

“The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad will continue with the investigation,” the NYPD said in a statement.
