Brooklyn Bull Dies Weeks After Fleeing Slaughterhouse

The bull who led police on a nearly two-hour chase through Brooklyn in October died from a respiratory disease weeks later, NJ.com reported.

BROOKLYN, NY — The bull that escaped a slaughterhouse and led police on an hours-long chase throughout Brooklyn died weeks later at a New Jersey animal sanctuary, NJ.com reported.

The bull was brought to Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue in Sussex County after police corralled him inside Prospect Park in October, but he died shortly after from a common respiratory disease, the paper reported.

"We saw him at 10:30 at night. Next morning, he was dead on the floor," Skylands owner Mike Stura told NJ.com.

The bull — which was later renamed Shankar by Sutra — made headlines for his daring escape from a South Slope slaughterhouse on Oct. 17. Shankar ran through Flatbush and Windsor Terrace before running around a soccer field inside the Prospect Park Parade Ground.

Shankar mainly stayed away from people during her freedom run, but knocked over a baby carriage and hurt the one-year-old inside, the New York Post reported.

After about two-hours, police shot Shankar with a tranquilizer gun in the soccer field and took it into custody.

Shankar was taken to the 232-acre farm in New Jersey to spend the rest of his days, but the one-year-old bull contracted bovine rhinitis and soon died from the disease, NJ.com reported.

Sutra told the paper that they vaccinated Shankar for the disease when it got to Skylands, but the bull already contracted the disease.
