Brooklyn Teen Murdered Parents With Help From Boyfriend: Police

SHEEPSHEAD BAY, BROOKLYN — An alleged accomplice in the brutal December murder of Sheepshead Bay residents Rosie Sanchez, 39, and Anderson Nuñez, 40, was arrested Wednesday, according to the NYPD.

Sunset Park resident Jerry Maisonett, 28, was arrested around midnight Wednesday at 65th Street and Third Avenue in Brooklyn.

Maisonett has been charged with two counts of murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second and fourth degree, an NYPD spokesman said, for his alleged involvement in murdering Sanchez and Nuñez, parents to 15-year-old Destiny Garcia.

According to multiple news reports, Garcia confessed to killing her mother and stepfather with Maisonett’s involvement. She reportedly left their bodies to rot in the family’s shared apartment for days.

Police discovered multiple gunshot wounds on Sanchez’s body, and gunshot and stab wounds on Nuñez’s body, on Jan. 3 around 6:30 p.m. in their apartment at 2364 Batchelder Street, Patch previously reported.

According to the New York Daily News, investigators now believe Maisonett was the one who shot down Nuñez. In addition, court documents reportedly allege that on a return visit to the apartment to search for the murder weapons, Maisonett plunged a knife into Nuñez to “make sure he was dead.”

Prosecutors will argue that Maisonett gave Garcia the gun used to kill the couple, the Daily News reported. Police sources told the newspaper that Maisonett’s DNA was recovered from the crime scene.

Garcia was arrested immediately after her parents’ bodies were found and charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
