Across all of New York City, almost 20,000 people have complained about garbage on the street being neglected by trash pickup and instead festering in public for days. The area of Flatbush is facing the brunt of the issue, dealing with a large amount of these complaints.

Although this is not a new issue, the problem does seem to be worsening. Complaints have nearly quadrupled since last year, and yet a new trash schedule still has not been implemented. Spokespeople for the city have stated that the problem is caused by illegal dumping, poor management, and missing garbage bins.

This is a citywide issue, with complaints coming largely from Brooklyn, but also from Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx.
