FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — Designs have been unveiled for a new senior center and community space in Flatbush, on the corner of New York Avenue and Farragut Road.

Heritage Architecture shared the plans for the seven-story mixed-use space, expected to be completed in 2019.

Seniors will be housed in the 90 housing units on top, and the community center will provide services to the elderly people living there. That will include medical care and an adult day care center operated by Evangelical Crusade Christian Church.

"We worked with the development team and the church to develop a solution that provides maximum number of senior units and integrate the community facility and social services spaces in a welcoming and effective way," Heritage says. "The project integrates with the neighborhood and provides an attractive streetscape."

The building will total 65,025 square feet, with 7,800 square feet going to the community space and 39,971 square feet for residential, according to New York YIMBY.

Here's how New York YIMBY described the building's look:

Despite the constraints of the location and occupancy, the plans for the structure are quite attractive, employing a restrained pallet of neutral colors for the facade. The base of the building will feature large floor-to-ceiling glass windows, opening the project to the street, and its envelope will also conform to the sidewalk, enhancing the neighborhood street-wall. The rendering also shows greenery cascading down portions of the exterior, though whether that is realized remains to be seen.
