Live WFMU Broadcast from Castello Plan Monday

Radio show host and long-time Ditmas Park resident Dan Bodah will be broadcasting live from Castello Plan Monday, May 14 from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Radio show host and long-time Ditmas Park resident Dan Bodah will be broadcasting live from Monday, May 14 from 9 p.m. to midnight.

"I've been living in the neighborhood since the space housing Castello Plan was a shoe shop, and T.B. Ackerson's was an Indian-run laundry," Bodah said, who has been hosting his show since 2000.

"When Ben [Heemskerk] opened Castello Plan and started hosting live music on Monday nights, it made sense to talk to him about broadcasting from there," he continued. "Ben has been very supportive of the idea all along."

Bodah noted this will be the first broadcast from the Castello Plan, and if all goes smoothly, plans to made this a regular event. "My hope is to evolve a monthly (or so) concert & broadcast series that provides a home in the neighborhood for the compelling, eclectic music," he said.

"There is also such a wealth of great musicians not just in Brooklyn but specifically in Ditmas Park that it will be exciting to see if we can connect with some of our local talents," Bodah said.

Joining Bodah for the broadcast are special guests Fahey! and Spirit Family Reunion. Fahey! is a duo made up of guitarist Will Graefe and drummer Jeremy Gustin.

"They draw inspiration and their name from John Fahey, a legendary guitarist who came up in the 1950s and 1960s digging into authentic American blues music but with one ear also tuned to the Eastern music that was starting to reach our shores from India and places like that," Bodah said.

"Will & Jeremy are taking John Fahey's music as a starting point and improvising and developing their own sound from there."

Spirit Family Reunion are Americana-based musicians that have played locally at the Greenmarket and will be featured in the Celebrate Brooklyn series in the Prospect Park bandshell this summer, Bodah continued.

"They also have their first full-length record coming out next month," he said.

The Castello Plan is located at 1213 Cortelyou Road.
