Look: Here's the City's Plan for the Nostrand Playground Basketball Courts
New floodlights, pavements, and drinking fountains are among the improvements coming to the East Flatbush park.
FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — The Parks Department this week unveiled its plans for renovations to the basketball courts at Nostrand Playground, located at the intersection of Nostrand Avenue and Foster Avenue in East Flatbush.
A department spokesman explained to Patch that the work includes replacing lighting at the courts, installing new asphalt pavements and new seating, planting shade trees, applying a new color seal coating and installing a new drinking fountain.
Earlier this week, department officials presented the below rendering depicting the work to members of the parks committee on Community Board 17, which represents East Flatbush. The diagram shows the location of the finished park's six floodlights, as well as the new trees, sidewalks and other alterations. New fencing is also shown in the diagram.

A Parks Department presentation shown to CB17 (embedded below) depicted the park's current state, including its aging drinking fountain and cracked pavements.
The CB17 parks committee didn't vote on the plan, because not enough members were available for a quorum, a CB17 staffer said. However, the plan will be considered during the board's next general meeting, scheduled for Oct. 19 at the Top Civic Center, located at 1100 Utica Ave.
Parks staffers are hoping to have the design phase of the project completed by May 2017. Construction should be completed by 2019. The total refurbishment is estimated to cost between $1 million and $3 million.
