Martin Shkreli Wants to Post Bobby Shmurda's Bail

FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — Turing Pharmaceuticals CEO and Brooklyn native Martin Shkreli, arguably the most hated mogul in Big Pharma, continued to strongarm his way into popular hip-hop culture Wednesday in a typically egomaniacal, bro-ish and borderline manic interview with HipHopDX.

Shkreli, 32, shot to notoriety in September for raising the price of a critical HIV drug 5,500 percent, then again this month when Bloomberg revealed he had purchased Wu-Tang’s one-of-a-kind record, Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, for $2 million — and hadn’t even listened to it yet.

Over the course of his latest interview, Shkreli tried to start a beef with the RZA and get Taylor Swift to come suck his d*ck in exchange for a private Shaolin listening party.

He also offered to post bail for 21-year-old Brooklyn rapper Bobby Shmurda, real name Ackquille Pollard, who will have been locked up — without trial — for exactly one year on Dec. 17.

Shkreli told the rap news site:

“We’re actually in discussion to try to bail out Bobby Shmurda. Forget whether you think he’s guilty or not, the guy should not be sitting in jail right now. It’s insane. He’s from Brooklyn. I’m from Brooklyn. He deserves a fair trial. He deserves good lawyers. He doesn’t have good lawyers. His label is hanging him out to dry and so I have a conference call tomorrow morning with them [Dec. 15]. I’ll show up with $2 million bail money no f*cking problem. He’s not going to flee the country. I’m not going to lose anything. I’m going to try to make that happen. That’s one thing I’m working on.”

Shmurda was arrested along with 14 other members of his Flatbush crew, GS9, late last year and charged with conspiracy to commit murder, weapons possession and reckless endangerment.

Since then, he’s gone through three different attorneys and multiple botched attempts to post his staggering $2 million bail.

It’s not clear whether the court will consider Shkreli to be closely related enough to Shmurda for his money to be accepted on the rapper’s behalf, a court insider told Patch. However, he may be able to work out some sort of indirect deal with Epic Records (Shmurda’s label, a subset of Sony). We’ve reached out to Epic for details on Shkreli’s alleged talks with the label.

It’s also not clear whether Shmurda himself would accept the money, seeing as it comes with strings attached.

“Look, the guy’s going to have to record for me if he comes out,” Shkreli told HipHopDX. “I’ll just come out and say it.”

More from Shkreli’s bizarre Shmurda rant:

“I’m a fan and I’m a business man. I’m not going to do this for free. [Laughs] He’s going to have to do something for me. I don’t know what that’s going to look like yet. He’s going to owe me one, obviously. I’d like to pay for his legal defense as well. I’m a big fan but also I’m an opportunist. You know that. I see an opportunity here. He’s a talented guy. Every concert I go to, people yell ’Free Shmurda.’ He reminds me of me, quite frankly. The guy’s totally irreverent. He doesn’t give a damn what people think. Totally irreverent. Totally I don’t give a f*ck. I love him. I just love that style. He’s from not far from where I’m from in Brooklyn. I’d love to help him out. I wish someone would have helped me out when I needed help. He doesn’t have much money, I know that. He’s definitely hurting for money. He needs a bailout, basically. I’d like to help him out. No big promises, but I’ll see what I can do. Like I said, if I can post the $2 million, I’d do it tomorrow. I’m working on it and hopefully we’ll see him free soon.”

Reached for comment, Shmurda’s latest attorney, Alex Spiro, said: ”My comment is I definitely have no comment.”
