There Is Still Time To See The Art Exhibition 'Salon des Refusés'

Brooklyn artists come together for an unique show of rejected art.

Last month, a group of artists held an exhibition called the “Salon de Refusés.” This was a throwback to the famous 1863 event where Édouard Manet first unveiled his famous “Luncheon on the Grass” painting. The concept was the same: any artwork that had been rejected from other major art galleries could be displayed without judgment or prejudice. The Brooklyn show was a huge success, displaying over 200 paintings and lasting for over a month.

On November 16th, some artists will be speaking at the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) about their art-making process. The talk will take place between 4 and 6 p.m. on Saturday. Also, the Salon has been extended to December 22nd, so take a look at the rejected artwork on Saturday and Sunday between 1 and 6 p.m. at the BWAC building!

Among the art displayed is the impressive painting above, entitled "Gowanus Taxis." It shows the bustle of taxis, their yellow heavily saturated against the blue sky. It is a reflection on change, movement, labor, and city life, and is a good reflection of the diversity and the mood of the entire exhibit.
