Vote On What East Flatbush Projects Your Tax Dollars Should Go Toward

Participatory budgeting starts Saturday. Here are projects in East Flatbush and surrounding neighborhoods you can vote on.

EAST FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — Participatory budgeting season starts Saturday, when neighborhood residents can vote on which projects they'd like to see their tax dollars go toward.

Several projects are available in Brooklyn’s 45th District, which includes the Eastern part of Flatbush and surrounding neighborhoods and is represented by Councilman Jumaane D. Williams. (See a full district map here.)

Residents over the age of 14 will vote on up to five projects, which will be funded up to $1 million. A full list of the projects can be seen below, courtesy of Williams' office. For information on where and how to vote, click here.

Rugby Library Renovation
100 Utica Avenue
Cost:$500,000
Project Scope: Create additional rooms and areas within the library in order to create a STEM Lab, Creative Studios, Meeting Room and a Business Center.

Brooklyn College Academy Stem Lab
2900 Bedford Avenue
Cost: $100,000
Project Scope: Create Genius labs areas for students to charge electronic devices, standing or stool height perimeter computer workstations, mobile workstations, separate areas for lectures, computer, and group work mobile tables that can be arranged for lectures or group work. Unique shape tables Tables with white board tops and soft seating and also storage for students to store jackets.

P.S. 181 Computer Lab Upgrade
1023 New York Avenue
Cost:$150,000
Project Scope: Renovate computer lab, with modern computers. New computer desks, and chairs for the students. A computer lab that is painted with colors that will help enhancing the learning experience of students.

P.S. 109 New Computer Lab / Public Address System Renovation
1001 East 45th Street
Cost: $150,000/ $650,000
Project Scope: Create new and modernized computer lab. A new PA system and new modernized projector screen will help both students and teachers. Students need to be able to access and use this newly renovated computer lab to enhance their learning experience.

P.S. 152 / P.S. 315 Schoolyard Renovation
725 E 23rd Street

Cost: $500,000
Project Scope:Install a new play structures catering to Pre-K through Grade 2 and another play structure catering to Grades 3-8. Upgrade the existing school garden by rebuilding and raising planting beds. Replace or reinforce existing fence surrounding garden to shield students and garden-users from concurrent recreational sports taking place in the field area.

Security Cameras for Glenwood Houses
925 East 56th Street
Cost: $140,000
Project Scope: NYPD cameras to be installed in the surrounding areas of the Glenwood houses. It will help decrease crime and also help the NYPD Detect criminals and crimes that are taking place in the area.
