FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — You might have watched the 2016 Democratic debate last night, but have you seen Bernie Sanders, also known as Rabbi Manny Shevitz, in the 1999 rom-com ”My X-Girlfriend’s Wedding Reception”?

That’s right. Before Sanders was a presidential nominee, he played a bit part in the film, starring Debbie Gibson and Dom DeLuise, about a bride whose ex-boyfriend is a member of a musical band of misfits at an Italian-Jewish wedding, according to IMDB.

Sanders grew up in Flatbush, Brooklyn, and attended James Madison High School and Brooklyn College, according to his website.

He attended the University of Chicago and moved to Vermont after graduating to work as a carpenter and documentary filmmaker — eventually becoming mayor of Burlington in 1981, a member of the Vermont House of Representatives from 1990 to 2006, a Vermont senator in 2006 and now a 2016 presidential hopeful.
