Wendy's Unfair to Farmworkers
Wendy's REFUSES to sign on to an agreement requiring their food suppliers provide fair labor practices to their farmworkers.
Many of us from time to time enjoy some fast food, but we don't always take the time to think of the individuals that supply the food that goes into that beef or veggie burger with extra lettuce and tomato that you so love.
This coming April 2nd, 2022 there will be a five mile march to end modern slavery in the fields sponsored by the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) in an effort to get Wendy's to sign on to an agreement that other fast food retailers such as McDonald's, Burger King, Subway, Taco Bell and Chipotle signed a decade ago, that requires fair work practices from the growers that supply these chains.
The CIW cites a recent prosecution of a labor conspiracy that arrested 24 individuals, that affected 71,000 farmworkers and netted over $200,000,000. The arrested were accused of the following: rape, kidnapping, threats of violence, attempted murder of workers or their families, death, as well as the selling of farmworkers as reported in an article by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution December 3, 2021. Operation Blooming Onion a multi-law enforcement task force found that farmworkers were imprisoned and were forced to dig in the dirt with their bare hands. https://www.savannahnow.com/st...

The above mentioned are the types of abuses that the CIW wants to put an end to, and give all farmworkers a life worth living with the same rights to fair labor practices as other citizens in the United States, and put an end to one of the forms of modern day slavery.
