White House Photog Talks 'Throwing Shade' At Trump In BK Event
Pete Souza, a former official White House photographer who uses photos of Barack Obama to mock Donald Trump, is coming to the Kings Theatre.

FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — Pete Souza spent eight long years as the chief official White House photographer, diligently shedding light on the former United States president Barack Obama.
But now he’s throwing shade.
Souza, the former White House photographer who documented both Obama’s and Ronald Reagan’s administrations, will come to the Kings Theatre in October to talk about his new book and the Instagram account he uses to compare his former subject, Obama, to his new president.

“Shade: A Tale of Two Presidents,” juxtaposes Souza's photographs of Obama during his terms in office to current news coverage of President Donald Trump with a very clear message.
“This is actually our ‘favorite President,’” Souza writes next to a photo of Obama walking across the Oval Office with a small toddler, in an Instagram posted the same day Trump made a similar boast. “Everybody knows it.”

Souza has been throwing shade President Trump's way since the New York real estate mogul first took office in January 2017. More recently, Souza chastised Trump for saluting a general in North Korea, an authoritarian country under the rule of a dictator.
She knows who to salute and who not to salute.

Souza also derided Trump with a photograph of then-president Obama closing his eyes and sticking his fingers in his ears.
He didn’t have to do this when given the jobs numbers or other classified information, but maybe our current president should.

And, on Oct. 15, Souza will arrive in Brooklyn to discuss his concern about, and derision of, the Trump administration during a promotional tour for his book, which contrasts about 100 images of President Obama with tweets, news headlines, and quotes from Trump’s first 500 days in the White House.
“Shade is a portrait in Presidential contrasts, telling the tale of the Obama and Trump administrations through a series of visual juxtapositions,” his publishers write. “Some call this ‘throwing shade.’ Souza calls it telling the truth.”
