NEW YORK, NEW YORK — Voting takes place 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday for downtown and midtown primary elections. Check back here starting at 9 p.m. as the results start to come in.
Here's a breakdown of the downtown and midtown Manhattan primary races:
District 10: The Upper West Side, Chelsea, the West Village, Greenwich Village, Tribeca and the Financial District in Manhattan; Borough Park, Kensington and slivers of Red Hook, Gowanus, Sunset Park, Midwood, Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst and Dyker Heights in Brooklyn (map)
Jerry Nadler vs. Oliver Rosenberg. Nadler is the incumbent.
"Rosenberg, a healthcare app CEO and Orthodox Jew, said he was motivated to run because of Nadler's support of the recent deal to lift some sanctions on Iran in exchange for preventing the country from obtaining nuclear arms, which Rosenberg considers dangerous to Israel. Rosenberg, who voted Republican in his former home Los Angeles as recently as 2012, is also for banning assault weapons, shutting down the Indian Point nuclear power plant, and legalizing marijuana." - Gothamist
District 12: The Upper East Side, Midtown, the East Village and part of the Lower East Side in Manhattan; Greenpoint and part of Williamsburg in Brooklyn; Long Island City, Astoria and other neighborhoods in western Queens (map)
Carolyn Maloney vs. Peter Lindner. Maloney is the incumbent.
Maloney is expected to win in a landslide over Lindner, who has never run for political office and said he was inspired to run when Maloney's office had an insufficient response to his constituent complaint.
