ESPN To Open Broadcast Studios In Manhattan

ESPN will open new waterfront studios in Lower Manhattan, the company announced on Tuesday.

LOWER MANHATTAN, NY — ESPN will move into a massive waterfront space in Lower Manhattan, where it will begin broadcasting shows starting next year, the company announced on Tuesday.

The sports network will move into a 17,000-square-feet space at Pier 17, a new development from the Howard Hughes Corporation. ESPN will begin producing multiple shows from the space in spring 2018, the company said. The space will include two broadcast studios and one radio studio, the New York Post reported. ESPN has not yet said which shows will be broadcast from Pier 17.

"The Seaport District production facility is a state-of-the-art content factory that will allow us to produce differentiated studio content for both television and digital," Connor Schell, an executive vice president at ESPN, said in a statement. "The flexible spaces, both indoor and outdoor, allow us to take advantage of all that New York City has to offer."

Pier 17 is one of a number of seven new buildings and ongoing construction projects in the Seaport District, which is being developed primarily by the Howard Hughes Corporation. On Monday, the building glowed bright red in honor of the building's new tenant. The Seaport District, and Pier 17, is located right on the water, offering views of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty. Pier 17 will include a number of high-end restaurants and a 1.5-acre rooftop, according to the Howard Hughes Corporation.
