Driver Charged In Fatal Hit-And-Run That Killed Woman In Manhattan

The woman who was killed has still not been identified.

NEW YORK CITY — A driver has been charged after fatally striking a woman who was crossing the street in the Lower East Side last week.

Julio Cachago, 54, of Queens, is accused of hitting a woman in her 60s as she crossed Stanton Street around 7 p.m. on Dec. 18.

The woman was in the crosswalk when a black SUV struck her. She was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Cachago has been charged with criminally negligent homicide, leaving the scene of an accident and motor vehicle failure to yield to a pedestrian.
