Farmers Market Returns To World Trade Center Next Week

LOWER MANHATTAN, NY — Fresh fruits and veggies will be on sale at the World Trade Center next week when the Greenmarket farmers market returns to Oculus Plaza. Ten vendors will hawk fresh meat, produce, breads, dairy and other products at Fulton and Church streets every Tuesday from June 5 to Oct. 30.

The Greenmarket returned to the site last year for the first time since the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The former market was open the day hijacked planes destroyed the twin towers.

This year's market, open weekly from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., will feature special cooking demonstrations by chefs from Eataly NYC Downtown, the Italian market located inside the Oculus shopping center.

Shoppers can also sit outdoors underneath the wing of the architecturally unique Oculus structure, located near the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.

The market is one of dozens run by GrowNYC, a nonprofit that offers sustainability programs in the city. Westfield, the company that operates the Oculus mall, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey are also partners in the market.

The market will accept payments with cash, credit and debit cards, SNAP/EBT and Farmers Market Nutrition Program checks.
