Fyre Festival Saga To Be Documented In Hulu Series

A new series will retell the story of the disastrous music festival, which was created by a company headquartered in Tribeca.

TRIBECA, NY — The disastrous saga of the Fyre Festival will be documented in a new Hulu series, which will follow the mistakes of the failed music festival that was planned by a Tribeca media company.

The entrepreneur Billy McFarland, the festival's founder, recently pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud. McFarland and the rapper Ja Rule decided to create the music festival in the Bahamas as a high-end, luxury retreat, and even recruited celebrities to advertise for the festival. Instead, guests who shelled out thousands of dollars found ramshackle tents and food packaged in styrofoam containers, not the luxury residences and gourmet meals they had paid for.

Now, the chaos and dysfunction behind the festival will be catalogued in a new documentary series, produced by The Cinemart, "Billboard" and Mic for Hulu, the streaming company announced this week.

The multi-part series will "provide a 360-degree, behind-the-scenes view of what happened before, during and after the failed festival, including in-depth interviews from inside sources, as well as hours of exclusive never-before-seen footage, leaked documents, emails and recordings," according to Billboard.

In May 2017, Fyre Media fell behind on its rent payments at its tony Tribeca headquarters, according to a notice posted outside the building. Patch previously reported on the documents which said Fyre Media owed $35,000 in rent payments to its landlord. The storefront space, located at 52 Lispenard St., is now home to the high-end jewelry shop Foundrae.
