Knicks Star Kyle O'Quinn Won't Be Charged With Choking Woman: Prosecutors

The Knicks forward was accused of choking a woman last year.

TRIBECA, NY — Prosecutors will not press charges against Knicks player Kyle O’Quinn after he was accused of choking a woman last year near a Downtown Manhattan bar, authorities said.

A spokesman for the Manhattan District Attorney told Patch that no criminal charges are being filed against the Knicks forward. The New York Daily News first reported the decision.

Shakaira Elie accused O'Quinn of choking her last year outside of Trinity Place Bar and Restaurant. According to Elie's account, the basketball star was out drinking with his girlfriend but kept making eye contact with Elie. At one point, O'Quinn's girlfriend attacked Elie outside the bar and the NBA star jumped into the fight, choking her, Elie said.

O'Quinn claims that he was the victim, and that Elie, 23, was the one who assaulted him. In a counterclaim, the NBA star says that Elie grabbed his genitals after following him out of the bar.

Elie and O'Quinn are now engaged in a legal battle over their differing versions of what happened last year. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)
