The Hills, a series of man-made creations, was opened on July 19 to Governors Island visitors.

DOWNTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A host of city officials, including former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, announced the opening of Governors Island's newest attraction, The Hills, on Tuesday.
As you might be able to gather from its title, The Hills is a set of four man-made hills constructed out of recycled material rising 25 to 70 feet above sea level. The 10-acre site has public art, play areas, slides (!) and Governors Island's usual beautiful view of lower Manhattan.
"Governors Island is a jewel in the middle of New York Harbor," Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer said in a statement. "This is one of the city’s most unique public spaces, and I’m thrilled that these extraordinary new landscapes are now a part of it."

The ferry to Governors Island is free through July 22, and they'll be operating ferries every 30 minutes, instead of every hour, over the weekend.
Patch toured the island on its first day and we can report back that it is indeed a stunning view.
