See The Belt That Caused Terror At Pace University

A man wearing a belt made of apparent bullets caused a false alarm at Pace's Manhattan campus on Thursday.

FINANCIAL DISTRICT, NY — The belt that caused a gun scare at Pace University on Thursday is lined with bullets, photos released by police on Friday show.

A man wearing the bullet belt on Thursday afternoon spurred witnesses to call 911 and report a man with a machine gun on campus. Pace's building at 41 Park Row was completely evacuated before police found the man wearing the belt, and determined that there was no gun.

"His belt was just a belt that he wore as part of his wardrobe, a fashion statement, probably not a very good fashion statement," said John Miller, a deputy commissioner at the NYPD.

The man wearing the belt, who police did not identify, was not arrested in connection with the shooting scare. Police did confiscate the belt to inspect it and determine whether the bullets were real or constructed for the belt. "We're considering charging one individual with a fashion crime but we're still conferring with the fashion prosecutor," Miller joked.
