Prop Fall Hurts Students During Stuyvesant High Show: Report

Four students were injured during a musical performance at Stuyvesant High School on Thursday.

TRIBECA, NY — Four students were injured during a musical performance at Stuyvesant High School on Thursday night, fire officials said.

Audience members told the New York Daily News that a prop collapsed on stage during the Thursday night performance.

An FDNY spokesman said authorities responded to the Tribeca school at about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday and transported four students to the hospital with injuries, none of them life-threatening.

Students were performing in an annual, student-run musical when a bridge on the stage collapses under the weight of multiple students, witnesses told the Daily News.

"We were all panicking. People were running with ice and the audience was rushing out of the theater," student Joan Chirinos told the newspaper.

"EMS immediately responded and transported students involved to the hospital where they are in stable condition and are being treated for non-life threatening injuries," a spokeswoman for the city's education department said in a statement. "Safety always comes first and we are looking into what caused the prop to collapse."
