Tribeca Jeweler Was Strangled To Death: Medical Examiner

Omid Gholian was strangled to death, according to the medical examiner's office, and police continue to search for his killer.

TRIBECA, NY — A Tribeca jeweler was strangled to death inside his store earlier this month, according to the medical examiner’s office. For more news from Tribeca and the Financial District, sign up for Patch's news alerts here.

Omid Gholian was found dead on Feb. 15 with zip-ties around his neck and a plastic bag over his head in his lower Manhattan shop, according to police sources. The city medical examiner’s office has determined that Gholian’s death was a homicide.

"The cause of death is compression of neck," office spokeswoman Julie Bolcer told the New York Post. "The manner of death is homicide."

Police sources told the New York Post that Gholian, 43, was found lying in a pool of blood in the bathroom of his store, World of Gold N Diamond at 193 Church St.

Gholian’s death is the first homicide this year in the first precinct, which includes the Financial District and Tribeca.

An NYPD spokesman told Patch on Tuesday that police had no new updates on their investigation.
