1 Dead, 1 Injured After Car Strikes Pole Near Montauk Highway: PD

The passengers were ejected from the car upon impact, police say.

GREAT RIVER, NY — A woman is dead, and a man is seriously injured after they were ejected from their car in a crash near Great River on Friday morning, Suffolk County Police said.

A 37-year-old man was driving a 1998 Jeep southbound on Great River Road, about 100 feet south of Montauk Highway, at about 12:50 a.m.

NeriBeth Medina-Mas, 25, of Brentwood, was a passenger in the Jeep.

The vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole, ejecting both occupants, police said.

Medina-Mas, 25, of Brentwood, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.

The was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where he is in critical but stable condition, police said.
