Drop Off Your Christmas Tree At Tompkins Square Park For MulchFest Saturday, Sunday
Christmas trees collected at MulchFest will nourish parks and gardens across the city.
EAST VILLAGE, NY — Say fir-well to your Christmas tree at the 21st annual MulchFest this weekend. East Villagers can watch their Christmas trees recycled into mulch at Tompkins Square Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
MulchFest is an annual NYC event where Christmas trees are recycled into wood chips, that are later used to nourish tree beds and gardens throughout the city, according to the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation. There are 30 chipping sites and 48 drop-off sites across all five boroughs.

"MulchFest is one of the many annual events that I look forward to because it’s such an easy way to show our commitment to caring for parks across the city," Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver said in a statement. "By repurposing Christmas trees we provide plenty of mulch which serves to reinvigorate New York City’s urban forest."

Last year's event recycled more than 30,000 trees across the city.
Participants will receive free tote bags and their very own free bag of mulch.
