Lorde Invites Liquiteria Employee To Gov Ball

The New Zealand pop star Lorde invited a Liquiteria employee to Gov Ball after buying a Blue Velvet smoothie at the juice joint.

MANHATTAN, NY — The pop star Lorde ended up inviting a Liquiteria employee to Gov Ball this week during a routine smoothie-stop at the Manhattan juice spot.

The New Zealand singer surprised Emely Paula Medina, a very excited Liquiteria employee, when she stopped by on Sunday to order a smoothie. Medina, who posted a video of the encounter of Twitter, excitedly told the 20-year-old pop phenomenon that she was the first celebrity she had served.

Later on Sunday, Lorde messaged Medina on Twitter to invite her to Gov Ball, the music festival held annually on Governor's Island.

Medina had recently started working at the chain, which sells pricey cold-pressed juices and fresh-fruit smoothies. It's unclear what location of Liquiteria Medina works at, but the smoothie chain has locations in Chelsea, East Village, Greenwich Village and Flatiron. We'll update this post if we hear back from Medina or Liquiteria about which location the celeb patronized. Medina, who just finished her freshman year at the University of Tampa, is an NYC native, according to her social media profiles. She had been on the job for just a few weeks when her famous customer stopped by and ordered a "Blue Velvet" smoothie, which is filled with acai, blueberries, almond butter and more, according to Liquiteria's menu.

Lorde has been living and working in Manhattan during the last year while finishing her sophomore album Melodrama, which is expected to be released later this month. The Governors Ball Music Festival, or Gov Ball, during which Lorde is scheduled to perform, begins on Friday.
