The Westhampton Beach Performing Art Center will present banjo virtuoso and 14 time Grammy Award winnerΒ BΓ©la Fleck in concert with the string quartetΒ Brooklyn RiderΒ Sunday, June 29 at 8:00 p.m.Β
BΓ©la Fleckβs music transcends genres creatively exploring bluegrass, jazz, pop, rock and world beat. He began his career with the bluegrass ensemble New Grass Revival and then formed the Flecktones with Sam Bush. In 2001 BΓ©la released βPerpetual Motionβ his acclaimed foray into the classical world, which won two Grammys.Β
Brooklyn Rider is a 21st-century string quartet with an eclectic repertoire that ranges from Persian folk music to Debussy. The band is perhaps best known for their work with Yo-Yo Maβs Silk Road project. Brooklyn Rider also performs original music. They have performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. NPR has said the quartet is responsible for βrecreating the 300-year old form of the string quartet as a vital and creative 21st-century ensembleβ The program will be anchored by Night Flight Over Water, Fleckβs newly composed quintet for banjo and string quartet.

Together, BΓ©la Fleck & Brooklyn Rider will play original compositions by both BΓ©la and the quartet, as well as classic bluegrass.
