E-Bike Rider Critically Injured In Montauk Crash: Police

The crash took place Tuesday afternoon, police say.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — A man was critically injured in an e-bike crash in Montauk Tuesday afternoon, police said.

According to East Hampton Town police, the crash took place at 4:38 p.m. on Montauk Highway.

A Montauk woman, 75, who was driving a 2017 Toyota RAV4 eastbound on Montauk Highway, made a left turn northbound into Carl Fisher Plaza, police said. The woman failed to yield the right of way to an e-bike traveling westbound, straight ahead on Montauk Highway, resulting in a collision between the vehicle and the bicycle, police said.

Zosa remained at the scene and has been fully cooperative with investigators; at this time, no criminality is suspected, police said.

The operator of the e-bike, Felix Antonio Estevez-Rodriguez, 70, of the Bronx, sustained serious injuries, police said.

He was treated at the scene by members of the Montauk Fire Department and subsequently transported to Stony Brook University Hospital by Suffolk County Police aviation, police said. He is currently listed in critical but stable condition, police said.
