Coast Guard Rescues Montauk Fisherman With Severed Finger
The 23-year-old was alert and in stable condition when he was taken to the hospital.

A fishermen off a Montauk fishing vessel was rescued by a Coast Guard helicopter after he severed his finger while out at a sea on Wednesday afternoon.
The Coast Guard said it medically evacuated a 23-year-old Montauk man who hurt himself while working with fishing gear aboard the 52-foot fishing vessel Sea Smoke.
The boat was 39 miles southeast of Montauk Point when the crew radioed the Coast Guard at about 12:45 p.m. "A Coast Guard flight surgeon was consulted and he recommended the patient be transported off the vessel for immediate medical attention," a statement from the Coast Guard said.

The rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Cape Cod in Massachusetts hoisted the patient off the boat and transported him to Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport. They reported he was alert and in stable condition.
His name was not released.

“With the help of our Coast Guard aircraft from Air Station Cape Cod, we were able to respond quickly and get the injured mariner the necessary medical attention,” said Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Russell Wolfe, a member of Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound.
