Here are the top stories in East Hampton today:

  1. The National Weather Service says a blizzard warning has been issued for Suffolk County, with wind gusts up to 60 mph and heavy snow causing whiteout conditions in the forecast for Saturday. Governor Kathy Hochul declared a State of Emergency and warns everyone to stay off the roads. Long Island is expected to be one of the hardest-hit areas in the state, and it could get between 10 to 16 inches of snow, according to Governor Hochul. (Patch)
  2. As told by East Hampton Star, the East Hampton Village Board has approved a lease agreement with the East Hampton Historical Society for the Dominy Shops at 73 North Main St., effective Feb. 1, 2023. β€œThe village wants to activate the space as a museum, so it’s not just, β€˜Hey, that’s a terrific restoration,’ ” said Stephen Long, director of the historical society, in a phone interview this week. β€œThe story of the Dominys and their impact on East Hampton will finally be accessible to visitors.”(Subscription: East Hampton Star)
  3. Several films for kids and adults will be shown at local libraries over the next week. At the East Hampton Library, Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice," as depicted in a 2005 adaptation starring Keira Knightley, will be shown in the Baldwin Family Room at 1 p.m. on Friday. (NewKudo)
  4. Can't get to the voting polls? No problem! Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation, this week, to allow voting by absentee ballot due to the COVID-19 pandemic through 2022. This legislation continues to allow New Yorkers to request an absentee ballot during the pandemic where there is a risk of contracting or spreading disease that may cause illness to the voter or other members of the public. "No one should have to choose between exercising their right to vote and protecting their health and safety," Governor Hochul said. "This legislation will ensure the pandemic does not create inaccessibility for voters during upcoming elections and help protect New Yorkers' access to the ballot."(East Hampton Star)
