Here are the top stories today in East Hampton:
- The Town of East Hampton is greener! According to the town's press release, 165 rooftop solar systems have been installed since the start of the program in 2018, with 63 completed in 2021. Cumulatively, the solar panels generate about 1.8 megawatts of power, contributing significantly to Hampton's renewable, clean electricity production, and helping our community achieve its 100 percent renewable energy goal. - According to the town's press release, the Town of East Hampton Police Chief Michael Sarlo recognized 15 officers and three public safety dispatchers for outstanding and dedicated acts of professional policing during 2021; James Gesa was named Police Officer of the Year. (East Hampton Patch)
- Peloton's severance package is… free fitness classes? It's no secret that Peloton's popularity has dimmed since gyms have reopened and competitors sell exercise bikes at a cheaper price. Last month, CEO John Foley posted a note to the company website, acknowledging declining demand and hinting at future layoffs. Now, Peloton has announced that it is cutting 2,800 jobs and providing laid off employees with a generous severance package which apparently includes a year of complimentary fitness classes. - There is a Board of Health meeting scheduled for Feb. 16, the meeting will be held in person and via videoconferencing (via Zoom). Suffolk County Department of Health Services Health Admin Board Room, 3500 Sunrise Highway, Great River. (Press Release Desk)
