Here are the top stories today in East Hampton:
- "The FAA approved the plan to switch East Hampton Airport to private use," East Hampton Town announced Tuesday. The Federal Aviation Administration has officially issued the new airport identifier “JPX” to the new town airport scheduled to open May 19. (FLYING)
- Long before the first Europeans set foot on the coast of New York, there were thriving societies of people working the land and building political confederacies. Names like Canarsie, Rockaways, Merricks and Montaukett were common among native Long Islanders. This site describes the 13 Native American Tribes on Long Island. (LongIsland.com)
- Things to do in the Hamptons: April 1–7. Spring has sprung and there are exciting things to do on the East End. Enjoy live music at Cowfish, see a play, and/or visit the Indigenous Art & Poetry Presentation. Let's not leave out the Cupsogue Seal Walk or the Montauk Point electric bike tour. - The Hampton Lifeguard Association will hold a benefit on Saturday, May 7, from 3-8 p.m. at Main Beach in East Hampton. The event will feature live music from Josh Brussels and a 50/50 raffle. Donations to HLA can be made here. The Beach Hut on Main will offer takeout food and beverages during the event; to order online, click here. HLA is a chapter of the United States Lifeguard Association and a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax-exempt organization. (East Hampton Patch)
