Here are the top stories in East Hampton today:

  1. Police arrested Marc Dern, 34, of East Hampton, and charged him with manslaughter in the death of 45-year-old Kevin Somers of Amagansett. (East Hampton Patch)
  2. There are open houses to fall in love with this weekend, but some may break the piggy bank. There are a number of beautiful homes to walk through during open house hours; the least expensive is a bargain at $1.3M. (Behind The Hedges)
  3. Suffolk County Police Financial Crimes Unit detectives are investigating a scam that involved a Bernalillo, New Mexico, resident in believing he'd won the lottery. All that was needed was $8,500 in fees to collect his prize. Police learned the cash would be shipped to a location in Southampton Village and waited at the location. The package was delivered at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 9, but no one responded to the home to retrieve it. Anyone who believes they may be a victim of a scam or have information about a scam to call the Financial Crimes Unit at 631-852-6821. (Southampton Patch)
  4. The Suffolk County Department of Health Services' Division of Environmental Quality will hold its regular monthly Board of Review Hearing on Thursday, Feb. 17. As stated in the Suffolk County Sanitary Code, the Board of Review hears requests for variances and waivers to the county's requirements for water and sewage disposal for new construction, and for storage of toxic or hazardous materials. Only department representatives, applicants, applicant representatives, and formally invited parties will be able to speak during the hearing. See links on press release for interested party attendance. (Press Release Desk)
